Mario Zeffiri will sing the title role in this evening's performance of Donizetti's Roberto Devereux, replacing Matthew Polenzani, who is ill.

Greek tenor Zeffiri made his Met debut in the role at last Thursday's performance of the opera. Earlier this season, he sang the role of Ritornello in Gassmann's L'Opera Seria at La Monnaie in Brussels. He has previously sung the role of the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto at the Greek National Opera, Ismaele in Verdi's Nabucco at the Megaron Music Hall in Athens, Giannetto in Rossini's La Gaza Ladra at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, and Count Almaviva in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Opernhaus Zurich.

Roberto Devereux is conducted by Maurizio Benini and also stars Sondra Radvanovsky as Elisabetta, El?na Garana as Sara, and Mariusz Kwiecien as the Duke of Nottingham.
