Film producers Casey Twenter, Jeff Robison and Jeff Johnson, under the production house No Coast Entertainment, along with producer Kevin Waller (Gerson Productions) announce the initial casting of their screen adaptation "The Scent of Rain and Lightning." Filming begins in Oklahoma this fall.

Based on the book "The Scent of Rain & Lightning" by Nancy Pickard, the film stars Maika Monroe, best known from the horror hit "It Follows," and soon to be seen in "Independence Day: Resurgence." MAGGIE Grace, of "Taken" franchise and hit series "Lost," and Brad Carter, previously seen on "True Detective," and the forthcoming "Black Mass," are also confirmed. Grace also serves as a producer on the film.

"Nancy wrote a very special book and I shiver when I think of what Maika Monroe will bring to the role of our heroine," Twenter said. "I could not be more excited by the cast we're assembling."

The film focuses on a young woman who learns her parents' killer has recently been released from jail, forcing her to revisit old wounds, realizing the destructive power of hate and THE TRUE COST of family secrets.

"The Scent of Rain and Lightning" will be directed by Blake Robbins, an up-and-coming director whose first motion picture, "The Sublime and Beautiful," premiered to rave reviews at Slamdance Film Festival in 2014.

As producers and screenwriters, Robison and Twenter are best known for "Rudderless, the 2014 Sundance Film Festival closing night feature that was sold to Paramount and Samuel Goldwyn Co. for theatrical and home distribution. "Rudderless" is recognized as William H. Macy's directorial debut and stars Macy, his wife Felicity Huffman, Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Laurence Fishburne, and Selena Gomez.

Jason Van Eman and Ben McConley from WeatherVane Productions (Bartlesville, Oklahoma) and PKs Remain Entertainment will be Executive Producing the project.
