Lyric Opera of Chicago Announces Subscription Sale for Next Season

CHICAGO - Subscriptions go on sale February 1 at 10:00am for Lyric Opera of Chicago's 62nd season. Next season offers world-renowned artists, nine tremendous new-to-Chicago productions, and the start of Wagner's famed Ring cycle, Das Rheingold.

The 2016/17 season includes three operas sung in French: Berlioz's Les Troyens, Massenet's Don Quichotte, and Bizet's Carmen.There are two operas in German: Wagner's Das Rheingold and Mozart's The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte). Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor and Bellini's Norma will be sung in Italian, and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin will be sung in Russian.

International stars returning to Lyric's stage include Eric Owens, Albina Shagimuratova, Piotr Becza?a, Quinn Kelsey, Christine Goerke, Sophie Koch, Brandon Jovanovich, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Christiane Karg, Adam Plachetka, Sondra Radvanovsky, Joseph Calleja, Mariusz Kwiecién, Ana María Martínez, and Charles Castronovo in main stage productions, plus Plácido Domingo, Renée Fleming, and Lawrence Brownlee starring in special performances next season.

The season's operas will be staged by internationally acclaimed and award-winning directors including David Pountney (Das Rheingold/new coproduction), Graham Vick (Lucia di Lammermoor/new-to-Chicago production), Tim Albery (Les Troyens/new production), Matthew Ozawa (Don Quichotte/new-to-Chicago production), Neil Armfield (The Magic Flute/new production), Kevin Newbury(Norma/new coproduction), Rob Ashford (Carmen/new coproduction), and Robert Carsen (Eugene Onegin).

Subscribers receive priority access to tickets for special events until July, when single tickets go on sale to the general public. These include Celebrating Plácido, a concert showcasing the artistry of Plácido Domingo, on March 9 & 13, 2017 and Lawrence Brownlee & Eric Owens in Recital on April 9, 2017 (a Subscriber Appreciation Event with tickets just $20-$50 for subscribers if purchased by April 1, 2016). Subscribers will also receive advance priority to order individual tickets for Lyric Unlimited's Chicago Voices Gala Concert, a musical celebration featuring Renée Fleming and guest artists on Sat. Feb. 4, 2017 and the Chicago premiere of Charlie Parker's Yardbird in partnership with and performed at the Harris Theater on March 24 & 26, 2017.

Lyric will present My Fair Lady (in the Robert Carsen production from Théâtre du Chatelet) as the fifth installment in Lyric's American Musical Initiative April 28 - May 21, 2017, featuring an all-star cast, along with the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
