LA Opera to Present Erwin Schrott in Special Concert, CUBA AMIGA, 12/12

(Los Angeles) November 24, 2015 - Opera star Erwin Schrott returns to LA Opera for an extraordinary concert event, Cuba Amiga. Mr. Schrott will be joined by an ensemble of outstanding classical and jazz musical friends from around the world, including special guest José Feliciano, the legendary singer and guitarist. Taking the audience on a musical journey through Latin America, Cuba Amiga delivers a thrilling international spectrum of Latin rhythms: bolero, salsa, flamenco, timba, rumba, cha-cha, samba and tango. The performance will take place at 7:30pm on December 12, 2015, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, 90012).

The December 12 event was previously announced as Rojotango, a concert featuring selections from Mr. Schrott's ECHO Klassik Award-winning crossover album of the same name. His new concert Cuba Amiga was inspired by the music and life of legendary tango performer Carlos Gardel. Eighty years ago, Gardel launched a concert tour throughout Latin America to promote his film musical El día que me quieras. Gardel's plan was to conclude the tour with the movie's premiere in Cuba, but his dream was defeated when the beloved performer was tragically killed in a plane crash in Colombia.

Cuba Amiga metaphorically follows Gardel's trip through South America. Mr. Schrott views the concert as "a thank you to Maestro Gardel and to Cuba as a source of inspiration and birthplace of many unique styles of music and immortal songs."

Bass-baritone Erwin Schrott is one of the most exciting opera singers of our time. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, he was shot to fame after winning first prize in the 1998 Operaliacompetition, making debuts in one major opera house after the other in quick succession.
