One of the most celebrated singers of our time, Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky will return to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for a recital at 7:30pm on Thursday, May 22, 2014.

Known worldwide for his extraordinary vocal beauty, formidable vocal technique and commanding interpretive artistry-as well as his striking looks and athletic physique-the Siberian-born baritone will be accompanied by his frequent collaborator, the Estonian pianist Ivari Ilja. This will be their third recital appearance together presented by LA Opera. Mr. Hvorostovsky also appeared with LA Opera in a 2006 orchestral concert of Russian arias and songs.

About the Performance
The intimate recital will open with 13 romances inspired by the poetry of Alexander Pushkin, written by Russian composers ranging from Glinka, Borodin and Tchaikovsky to the 20th century giants Rachmaninov and Sviridov. The second half of the recital is dedicated to one of Shostakovich's final works, the "Suite on Verses of Michelangelo Buonarroti." Composed in 1974, the song cycle explores the triumphs, burdens and set-backs of the great Italian artist's life.

About the Artist
Dmitri Hvorostovsky was born and studied in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. In 1989, he won the prestigious Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. From the start, audiences were bowled over by his cultivated voice, innate sense of musical line and natural legato. A celebrated recitalist in demand in every corner of the globe-from the Far East to the Middle East, from Australia to South America-Mr. Hvorostovsky has appeared at such venues as Wigmore Hall, London; Queen's Hall, Edinburgh; Carnegie Hall, New York; the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, Moscow; the Liceu, Barcelona; the Suntory Hall, Tokyo; and the Musikverein, Vienna.
