Fabio Luisi to Conduct HANSEL AND GRETEL at the Metropolitan Opera, 12/14

Fabio Luisi will conduct all performances of Hansel and Gretel this season, replacing Andrew Davis who has withdrawn for personal reasons.

In addition to Hansel and Gretel, Luisi also conducts Le Nozze di Figaro and Elektra with the Met this season. Previous appearances with the company include Don Carlo (for his 2005 debut), Simon Boccanegra, Die Ägyptische Helena, and Turandot. He is currently Music Director of the Dresden Semperoper, Chief Conductor of the Dresden Staatskapelle, and Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony. In 2010 he begins his tenure as Music Director of the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan and will become Chief Conductor of the Zurich Opera in 2012.

Hansel and Gretel is this season's holiday presentation and features Miah Persson as Gretel, Angelika Kirschlager as Hansel, Rosalind Plowright as Gertrude, Philip Langridge as the Witch, and Dwayne Croft as Peter. The production, staged by Richard Jones, premiered in the 2007-08 season and was transmitted as part of The Met: Live in HD series. Performances are on December 14, 17, 19, 21 mat., 24, 28 mat., 30 mat., and January 2 mat.
