WFUV Celebrates the Season with 'HOLIDAY CHEER', 'WHOLE WIDE WORLD', Countdown and More

WFUV, New York (90.7 FM/wfuv.org), has a full lineup of special programs to usher out 2015 and ring in 2016. Today, December 18, starting at 10 a.m., the station will unveil the results of its annual Listener Poll with a countdown of the Top 90 Songs of 2015. The countdown will highlight the second day of a special two-day membership drive. (As a community service, listeners are asked to add $5 to their contribution to benefit Little Kids Rock, which brings modern band to classrooms in public schools.)

On Thursday, December 24, from 12-2 p.m., WFUV will air Holiday Cheer for FUV: Live from the Beacon Theatre, a broadcast of this year's sold-out benefit concert, starring Brandi Carlile & Friends, which took place on Friday, December 4. The concert featured stirring performances by Brandi and her band, along with Dawes,Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and Lucius. As encores Dawes joined Brandi and her band for a high-energy cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues," and Brandi did a soulful duet with Sharon on "Silent Night," backed by the Dap-Kings. (There will also be a rebroadcast on Christmas night at 6 p.m.)

Christmas Eve will also feature the annual Whole Wide World with Rita Houston Christmas Special from 6-9 p.m. and Everywhere It's Christmas: The Beatles' Christmas Messagesfrom 9-10 p.m, with host Darren DeVivo observing how those annual messages, from 1963-1969, reflected the group's artistic development. WFUV will broadcast the Festival of Lessons & Carols 10:30-11:30 p.m. and Midnight Mass from 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m. from Fordham University Church.

On Christmas Day WFUV air a Home for the Holidays Christmas music mix, with greetings from the staff, followed by a rebroadcast of Holiday Cheer for FUV: Live from the Beacon Theatre from 6-8 p.m. On Thursday, December 31 WFUV has the soundtrack for celebration with The New Year's Eve Party from 8 p.m.-2 a.m.
