WFUV (90.7 FM/wfuv.org) is partnering with NPR Music to broadcast live performances from leading festivals, including the Newport Folk Festival July 27-29 and Celebrate Brooklyn on July 31.

WFUV’s Newport coverage begins on Friday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. with Wilco’s headlining performance from Ft. Adams State Park. WFUV’s music director Rita Houston and Bob Boilen of NPR Music will co-host the coverage, which continues on both Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29 from 12 noon to 7:30 p.m. Artists scheduled to appear on those days, which sold out months ago, include My Morning Jacket, Dawes, Iron and Wine, Patty Griffin, Jackson Browne, Punch Brothers, and Trampled by Turtles. WFUV will also carry backstage interviews from performers and will be posting photos online, along with Facebook updates and Twitter feeds throughout the weekend.

On Tuesday, July 31, Icelandic superstars Sigur Ros bring their ambient rock to Prospect Park Bandshell for a sold-out concert at benefit Celebrate Brooklyn’s free concerts. Rita Houston and Bob Boilen will again co-host the broadcast, which begins at 8:30 p.m. Support for the broadcast comes from Fairway Market.

“WFUV is all about being where the music is, whether it’s at small clubs on the Lower East Side or big festivals like Newport and Celebrate Brooklyn,” said Houston. “We’re especially excited to be able to bring these sold-out events to our listeners in the New York area and around the world.”

New York’s Rock and Roots station WFUV is a noncommercial, member-supported radio station, licensed to Fordham University for 65 years, serving nearly 300,000 weekly listeners throughout the New York metropolitan area and thousands more worldwide on the Web. WFUV has received national recognition for its award-winning weekday format of adult album alternative music, news from NPR, and a diverse weekend lineup. WFUV’s own robust website has extensive audio archives, videos, song playlists, an events calendar, blog and other resources.
