With great sadness, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra announces the passing of beloved concertmaster Chuck Sherba. He passed early the morning of Saturday April 19, lovingly surrounded by his wife, Consuelo, and their children Claire, Gabby, and Alexander, and grandson Augustine.

Chuck joined the Philharmonic as Concertmaster in 1986, and performed with the Orchestra for over twenty-seven seasons in addition to teaching students of violin at the Philharmonic Music School. His favorite concerts included playing with Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma as well as performing Brahms First Symphony under maestro Larry Rachleff. Locally, he also performed with the Aurea Ensemble and served as concertmaster for the Simon Sinfonietta and Festival Orchestra of the Chorus of Westerly. He also served since 1986 on the applied music faculty of Brown University.

"We will miss Chuck terribly," says executive director David Beauchesne. "His great legacy to our orchestra and music school speaks volumes to the love of music he shared with all of us, and is one that will be remembered and honored for years to come."

"We will dedicate our final subscription concert of the season on Saturday, May 10, to Chuck," Beauchesne adds.
