The Greenwich Odeum to Welcome Doug Woolverton and Jim Carpenter & The Hoolios in July

The Odeum celebrates the most patriotic month of the year with one of a kind blues, and the red hot sounds of Jim Carpenter & The Hoolios.

First, trumpeter Doug Woolverton recreates Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" on Saturday, July 12, at 8 p.m.A Trenton, New Jersey native, Doug began playing the trumpet at the young age of 7.

Doug has been cultivating his smooth, soulful, yet energetic trumpet sound for audiences around the world becoming one of the most in demand, versatile trumpeters of his generation. In addition to touring with his own band "A Tribute to Miles Davis," Doug also tours with the multi-award winning, five-time Grammy nominated, "Roomful of Blues."

Performed live, his arrangements are exact. Solos performed by Doug and his band are not transcriptions of recorded artists, but improvised, showcasing each musicians true personality and talent, giving the show a very personal touch. Doug's desire is to bring his audiences back in time through a musical journey themed around the great Miles Davis. Performing Miles Davis' hits from 1950-1990 including the entire "Kind of Blue" album. "Kind of Blue" was recorded and released in 1959 and is the highest selling jazz record of all time.

Doug Woolverton's Tribute to Miles Davis show is energetic, educational, swinging, passionate, and the sound of his 1947 Martin Committee trumpet makes you feel like you are on a musical journey and one not to be missed.

Then, on Saturday, July 19 at 8 p.m., The Odeum welcomes Jim Carpenter & The Hoolios.

Jim Carpenter & The Hoolios are steeped in the rhythms of the Gulf of Mexico: Americana, Latin, Reggae, Texas Folk and Zydeco. Compared to artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, Steve Forbert and Marc Cohn, Jim Carpenter & The Hoolios will leave the audience spellbound.

Jim Carpenter is a singer-songwriter born on Chincoteague Island VA and raised in Cape May, Key West and Miami. His upbringings in the south with its diverse musical climate still inhabit his vast repertoire of melody, lyric and fiction. As a performing songwriter, Jim Carpenter's narrative lyrics, driving acoustic guitar and intimate vocal delivery have garnered songwriting awards and placed him on stages with performers such as Greg Brown, The Resentments, Robert Earl Keen, Jeffrey Foucalt, Lucy Kuplansky, Dave Mallet, Garnet Rogers, Bill Morrissey, Catie Curtis and Richard Shindell.

Opening for The Hoolios are Rhode Island's own The MacLean Sisters. The MacLean Sisters are bringing their family band from the living room to shows throughout New England in support of their new record, "Other Side of Loving Me."

Their Americana sound relies on its genetic-blend harmonies and raw honest lyrics to deliver a performance that resonates will the audience. You can tell that the MacLean Sisters lives are deeply rooted in music that inspires them and they're hoping to pass that on to folks they meet along the way.
