MTV today announced the first batch of performers for the "2012 MTV EMA," with three of the world's most popular acts in pop and rock set to take the stage in Germany. Global superstar Taylor Swift – whose single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" reached the #1 position atop the iTunes charts in 32 countries in its first week of release – will perform at her first ever MTV EMA. Global stadium rock stars Muse, whose last album topped the charts in 19 countries and who have sold more than 15 million albums to date, will return to the MTV EMA stage with a performance from their sixth studio album "The 2nd Law," which is released this week. And riding the wave of acclaim for their first new album in 11 years, "Push and Shove," No Doubt will bring their California ska style to the EMA festivities.

Heidi Klum, the 19th annual awards show will broadcast live from Frankfurt's historic Festhalle tonight, Sunday, 11th November at 9PM CET* on MTV channels around the world; in the U.S., the two-hour show will premiere on MTV2 at 11:00 PM ET/PT tonight, November 11th.
Taylor Swift said, "I've always wanted to go to the EMA, because you hear about the spectacle of it, and how everyone just goes all out for their performances. To be nominated for five EMAs was the most exciting feeling, and I was absolutely blown away. I can't wait to be there this year and perform on the show!"

Taylor Swift is one of the top "2012 MTV EMA" nominees with five nods; she'll be vying for Best Female Best Pop, Best Look, Best Live and Best World Stage. Muse is nominated for Best Live and Best Rock, and No Doubt will be battling for Best Pop. As previously announced, Rihanna sits atop the list of EMA nominations with six, and
Justin Bieber and
Katy Perry are following closely behind with four nominations each.
Lady Gaga,
Carly Rae Jepsen, fun., Lana Del Rey, Jay Z and
Kanye West each received three EMA nominations, while
Green Day, Gotye, Pitbull, Rita Ora,
Flo Rida, Arctic Monkeys,
Jack White and
One Direction are up for two awards. MTV will announce additional EMA performers and presenters at a later date.
The "2012 MTV EMA" will air across MTV's global network of more than 60 channels reaching nearly 700 million households around the world as well as through syndication. In addition, its convergent programming and content will reach the entire interactive community, via MTV's more than 200 digital media properties around the world. The more fans engage with the EMA content featured on MTV's digital platforms in the weeks leading up to the show, the more their participation and points can boost the chances for their favorite artist to win the Biggest Fans prize on November 11th. Also returning this year is the Worldwide Act category, which celebrates the range and breadth of all the music that MTV has to offer by showcasing incredible artists from all parts of the world. Additionally, fans participating in the MegaFan competition on MTV's EMA platforms can earn a chance to win a trip to the 2012 MTV EMA in Frankfurt. The "2011 MTV EMA", held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, was the event's most watched telecast ever with more than 39 million viewers tuning in to MTV and VIVA channels around the world. The 18th annual show saw a double-digit increase year over year with the coveted P12-34 demographic and enjoyed a +29% increase in unique visitors to the EMA website on show day. The "2011 MTV EMA" also drew an impressive total of 158 million votes worldwide, a huge growth of +236% year over year.
