Strange Talk / The Griswolds Announce Tour Dates
Two of Wind-up Records' exciting new alt-pop bands, Strange Talk (Melbourne, Australia) and The Griswolds (Sydney, Australia) will be hitting the road together this month. Before kicking off their tour October 20, 2013 in Philadelphia, both bands will be making stops in New York City to play several CMJ shows (see dates below). Today, CMJ.com will exclusively be premiering The Griswolds' new video for their song "Mississippi."
Strange Talk will release their self-produced Wind-up Records debut album Cast Away early 2014. All songs were mixed by Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix) with the exception of "Climbing Walls," "Eskimo Boy" and "Is It Real?" which were mixed by Eliot James (Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club). Rolling Stone (Australia) gave Cast Away a four out of five star review calling it "Equal parts Cut Copy and Daft Punk with pinches of Eighties pop, Strange Talk's album is a fizzy cocktail of synths, breathy vocals and tinny drums." Their debut single, "Climbing Walls" is at radio now.
In additional to playing CMJ and the tour dates Strange Talk will make a stop in LA to play the official party of the 2013 Hollywood Reporter / Billboard Film & TV Music Conference October 30 at Avalon.
The buzz has been building since the release of their self-titled 2011 EP (Wind-up released an updated version of this EP June 4, 2013). They reached the #1 spot on Billboard's Uncharted chart with "Climbing Walls" in the United States; the music video for that song was also part of a hugely successful Cheer laundry detergent campaign "Dig It. Get It" in the United States and Canada which made it the first-ever music video to feature hidden rewards to be found within it. They've played such festivals as Parklife, Stereosonic, Future Music, Soundscape and Falls, opened for Foster The People, the Rapture, Neon Indian and Marina and The Diamonds. Now Strange Talk will make their U.S. album debut with Cast Away - 12 tracks of indie-meets-electro gems (track listing below). You can get the song "Another Day" for free here and on Strange Talk's website.
Strange Talk is Stephen Docker (vocals, keys), Gerard Sidhu (bass, keys), Travis Constable (drums) and Gillan Gregory (guitar, keys).
The Griswolds will also be releasing their debut album in 2014. Their infectious melodies and catchy tunes has everyone from triple j radio, Australia's premiere alternative radio station, to the blogosphere talking about their joyful sounds which Neon Gold Blog hails "Their euphoric slice of indie pop brings to mind the youthful exuberance of Vampire Weekend with the nonchalant cool of The Strokes and percussive intensity of Friendly Fires..."
"Heart Of A Lion," the band's first track, is available digitally now. Upon its release in Australia, the song was immediately added into high rotation on triple j and ended 2012 as one of the station's most played tracks of the year. The international airwaves were quick to take notice with the song attracting airplay in over 20 countries worldwide and it also reached #3 on the radio airplay charts in The Netherlands via tastemaker station 3FM and was an iTunes single of the week in the region.
The Griswolds are Christopher Whitehall (Vocals), Daniel Duque-Perez (Guitars), Chris Riley (Drums) and Tim John (Bass).
