Robin Thicke is doing what he can to make sure he earns the fans votes for this year's MTV Video Music Awards. He will be performing a free show on August 23rd at Terminal 5 in NYC to benefit the HIV/Aids foundation Lifebeat. It will be a part of a series of VMA shows that lead up to the award show itself on August 25th, live in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.

Time Warner Cable distributed more than 200 tickets to its customers at one of its NYC locations earlier this week and a contest on Twitter for the remaining passes will run through the end of the week. In orde to compete for the tickets, contestants must follow @twc and use the hash tag #TWCVMAconcert in their tweets to be entered for a chance to win.

Like always, this year's VMAs will be a major event involving dozens of stars making appearances. Performances at the show include Kanye West and Lady Gaga. Gaga will be performing her new single from the upcoming album ARTPOP.

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore lead the nomination count with six apiece. They will duke it out for video of the year, with Timberlake's 'Mirror's going up against Macklemore's 'Thrift Shop.' The other nominiees in this category include P!nk, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus and Thirty Seconds to Mars.
