Recess Monkey Set to Kickoff Tambourine Submarine Show
In a never-to-be-forgotten aquatic adventure that's guaranteed to amaze, astound, and entertain, family music icon Recess Monkey takes to the ocean blue and the islands green with their all-new Tambourine Submarine show, which sets sail at 11:00 a.m. on eight weekends from Saturday, October 19 through Sunday, December 15 in Teatro Zinzanni's historic spiegeltent at 222 Mercer St., Seattle, WA. (See detailed performance schedule below.)
Tambourine Submarine is a seaworthy spectacular that combines the artistic talents of performers from Teatro Zinzanni's renowned dinner shows (and several stars of tomorrow) with the unforgettable music of Recess Monkey to present a high-energy, family-friendly musical junket, replete with aerialists, acrobats, and even hula dancers! With mermaids, sea goddesses, aerial terpsichorean "seagulls," sea captains, and treasure maps, Tambourine Submarine overflows with surprises and excitement. It's a ballast blast from start to finish.
Recess Monkey is known for its catchy songs that inhabit the region somewhere between brainy and insane for the whole family to enjoy. At their Tambourine Submarine shows, they'll perform selections from their new albums, Deep Sea Diver and Desert Island Disc, with every number underscored by Recess Monkey's trademark, pitch-perfect understanding of what gets kids excited. Fans will be transported "over the bounding main" to a mysterious island with tunes like "Fish Sticks," "Tambourine Submarine," "The Deep End," "Shrimp," "Choral Reef," "Compass Rose," The Seven Cs," "Making Waves," "My Treasure," and more.
Giving an eye-popping, fantastical edge to the "everyday lives of kids," Recess Monkey weaves puns, jokes, stories, and shenanigans into its shows. No play on words is too much of a stretch, and no rhyme schemes are out of bounds for the group's genre-bending set of ditties that NPR described as "inventive, brilliant, multilayered." Audiences call Recess Monkey's shows "a great way to spend an hour rocking out!"
Sirius/XM's Kids Place Live Program Director Mindy Thomas enthuses, "These guys are able to tap into elementary school so well that it's like they never left. In this never-ending nationwide talent show of kid and family music, they are most definitely at the top."
