The Uptown Toodeloo String Band is a fresh new project on the Colorado front-range, comprised of established Colorado players bringing a big sound and loyal audiences. Uptown Toodeloo features pickers from notable Colorado bands including Great American Taxi, DeadPhish Orchestra, Coral Creek, The Holler!, Drunken Hearts and Whitewater Ramble. All players are steeped in the tradition and music of the Grateful Dead.
This is not a bluegrass band playing Grateful Dead songs. And this is not "just-another-Grateful Dead tribute band" playing bluegrass instruments. The
Uptown Toodeloo String Band combines the best of foot-stomping bluegrass music with the psychedelic style, arrangements and melodies of the good ole Grateful Dead. We're not playing Reckoning here folks, we go deep in the jams where acoustic instruments ought not go. That's why the faithful love it!
The
Uptown Toodeloo String Band started as a monthly gig at the Barkley Ballroom in Frisco, CO during the 2013/14 ski season. The lineup changed each month, with members of Coral Creek, The Holler, The Grant Farm, DeadPhish Orchestra and Drunken Hearts each taking turns leading the pick. The players and audiences had such a good time, we decided to make it a band. The current line-up reflects the composition of the first and last dates of the winter run and the core of the band that will continue to deliver Uptown Toodeloo renditions of your favorite Grateful Dead songs across the Rocky Mountain region.
