The Strange Familiar might not sound too strange to music lovers who have been around the past few years. With hits heard on popular shows such as Pretty Little Liars, The Biggest Loser, and The Vampire Diaries to name a few, the band skyrocketed onto the charts. After a year of downtime back in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, The Strange Familiar is ready to share new music with the world with the release of an EP out October 8th.

Titled, Surrender, the album is sure to encompass all of The Strange Familiar's encouraging lyrics where Leyden's vocals soar from a softer, pretty side to a power-house vocal that will leave the listener astounded and wanting more. From quieter, mid-tempo tracks like "Gone," to the climatic title track, "Surrender," The Strange Familiar certainly knows how to grab the attention of all listeners.

Somewhat darker than their last albums, Surrender, has a hopefully ominous feel to it, bringing in darker melodies and lyrics but always ending strong and positive with an empowering feeling. Writing most of the songs themselves, they stuck to their distinctive theme of uplifting songs that persuade listeners to push past life struggles. Lead singer, Kira Leyden notes, "The process of making this record taught us that you can be dark, as long as hope comes through. I don't have any desire to put anything negative into the world, so this is about struggle-but coming out on the other side to a positive place."

Playing as a band since middle school, their music has been heard on multiple ABC Family shows, ABC, CW, NBC, Teen Nick, and LMN shows. Their popular song, "Being Me" won them the Freshman Challenge on MTVU.com and their single, "Invisible," which they wrote at the age of 16, was sang by Ashlee Simpson in 2006 which landed in the Billboard Pop 100. Signed to Krian Music Group, this will be the band's second release following "Chasing Shadows" in 2012. The band self released their first full-length album titled, This is Gravity" in 2009.

The Strange Familiar plans to tour across the country for the remainder of the year before they head back into the studio for their third full-length album scheduled for next year.
