The Black Rock Coalition Orchestra, under the musical direction and design of the incomparable Toshi Reagon, explores the origins and evolutions of rock and roll with a celebratory and comprehensive journey that traces the roots of American music back to such progenitors as Bessie Smith, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Muddy Waters.
Members of the evening's all-star BRC Orchestra lineup have won Grammy Awards, OBIE Awards, been inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and performed with dozens of major pop/rock/R&B stars. The evening's performers will include Toshi Reagon, Nona Hendryx, Corey Glover (of Living Colour), Marc Anthony Thompson aka Chocolate Genius, Tamar-kali, Karma Mayet Johnson, KimberlyNichole, Jason Walker and Marcelle Davies Lashley on vocals; Matt Whyte of Earl Greyhound on guitar and vocals; Fred Cash, Jr. on electric bass; Kat Dyson on guitar; Robert "Chicken" Burke on drums; Mimi Jones on upright bass; Juliette Jones on violin and Jeremy Mage on piano and organ.
