In a first in its history, Telemundo presented the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards "Billboard Duets," a unique awards show exclusively showcasing never-before-seen duets and collaborations between music performers. The evening offered its worldwide audience unforgettable moments, from the entertaining fashion display of TV and music stars on the red carpet, to spectacular performances, world premieres and passionate acceptance speeches. Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias tied atop the winners list with seven awards each, both winning six for their collaboration "El Perdón" including Hot Latin Song of the Year; Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event; Airplay Song of the Year; Digital Song of the Year; Streaming Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year. Additionally, Enrique Iglesias won Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; while Nicky Jam won Latin Rhythm Songs Artist of the Year, Solo. Juan Gabriel won five awards including Tour of the Year, Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Male and Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, Solo. His album "Los Dúo" won for Top Latin Album of the Year, Latin and Pop Album of the Year. In addition, he was also honored with the special Billboard Star Award.

The three-hour show featured duets and collaborations by the biggest names in Latin music. It began with a spectacular and electrifying opening by Gente de Zona, Farruko, Papayo and El Dasa in their rendition of "Algo Contigo." In a memorable performance, iconic singer Juan Gabriel performed "No Discutamos" with Paty Cantu, followed by his performance of "Querida" with Juanes, and ending the set singing "Te Quise Olvidar" alongside Alejandro Fernandez. Exploding the stage with their staple rhythmic music, Daddy Yankee and Don Omar performed a historic medley of their respective hit songs, ending the set in a duet singing "Hasta Abajo." Both artists were honored this year with the Billboard Leadership Award, presented this year for the first time, for breaking boundaries and revolutionizing the Latin music industry.
