New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, America's Preeminent Gilbert & Sullivan Repertory company, launches its new and exciting 2016-17 Season with two new jewel-box productions of Cox and Box along with Trial by Jury! The 42nd season will kick-off on Saturday, October 29th at Off-Broadway's intimate Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater (10 West 64th Street) with a premiere double bill of Mr. Sullivan's first successful comic opera Cox and Box (libretto by F. C. Burnand) and NYGASP's "Wand'ring Minstrels" quintet performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's beloved legal parody Trial by Jury. The strictly limited engagement will play October 29th (2PM & 7:30PM) & 30th (3PM).

Under the dynamic leadership of Artistic Director Albert Bergeret, The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players has been hailed as "the leading custodian of the G&S classics" by New York magazine and has created its own special niche in the cultural mosaic of New York City and the nation. Since its founding in 1974, the company has presented over 2,000 performances of the G&S masterpieces throughout the United States, Canada and England, captivating audiences of all ages. NYGASP's productions are charged with engaging contemporary entertainment values while retaining respect for the famous duo's comedic and musical genius.

Cox and Box What a Rataplan! (it might be considered criminal)
Shyster military man, Sergeant Bouncer, rents the same room to Mr. Box by day and Mr. Cox by night - until one of them gets unexpected time off and the two lodgers unwittingly cross paths. Imagine the farcical outcome as the unscrupulous landlord tries to avoid the inevitable conflict by engaging both of his tenants in his "Rataplan, rataplan, I'm a military man" theme song. Only discovering that they share the same former fiancé and that they are long lost brothers could make the camaraderie and musical merriment more ridiculous. What a plan indeed!

Trial by Jury Join the Jury! (no time commitment required)
The audience is invited to join the jury as a quintet of "Wand'ring Minstrels" impersonate a lecherous judge, a gold digging plaintiff, a self-professed cad of a defendant, a dim witted bailiff, and a sleazy female lawyer - turning the courtroom proceedings upside down with self-serving arguments and musical mayhem - the perfect remedy for long, drawn out trials on TV, not to mention political campaigns!

Act Three Judgement Time! (feel free to deliberate on your own)
The NYGASP signature tour-de-force - impromptu renditions of audience requests from the Gilbert & Sullivan repertory by the casts and Artistic Director Albert Bergeret. Sentencing for inadequate responses to be determined!

The NYGASP 2016-17 season is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State's 62 counties. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

Limited Engagement of Cox and Box, paired with Trial by Jury will play Saturday, October 29 (2PM & 7:30PM) & Sunday, October 30 (3PM) at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater (10 W. 64th Street between Central Park West & Broadway). The season continues at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (East 68th Street between Park & Lexington Avenues) as follows: The Mikado (December 28-31, 2016 and January 5-8, 2017); Patience (April 29-30, 2017).
