Pianist/chanteuse/entertainer Ann Dahl will kick off a monthly series of piano nights Friday, June 13 at The Mix Studio Theater at 8 N. Washington in downtown Ypsilanti, Michigan. The soiree starts at 8pm. Payment for admission is through the tip jar on Ann's piano. Ann will sing and play, along with various musician friends of hers. Then, audience members will get the chance to pick from Ann's collection of sheet music and sing their favorite songs.

Picture yourself at a party. The crowd has maybe thinned a little. It's only the cool people now, the ones who know how to hold their liquor and an intelligent conversation at the same time. You're sipping responsibly on your chardonnay, reminiscing with a newly met soul mate about ... well, just imagine. You hear the seductive tinkling of ivories from the next room, over which a golden world-wise voice is laying down a smoky smooth rendition of "I'm In Love Again". You link arms with the most recent love of your life and the two of you follow the mesmerizing notes to their source. There at the piano, a mysterious chanteuse is holding court for her loyal admirers. As she delicately flicks her little finger out to tap the last note, she turns to you and beckons. You can't help yourself. You have to see what she wants. She points at a stack of sheet music. "Pick one." She smiles. Your eye is drawn straight to your favorite one. You danced to it one night at your sister's wedding, and got into trouble with the groom's French cousin, the beginning of the craziest three month fling anyone could imagine. You hand the music over, prepared to step back, to listen. But something in you won't let you. Something in you wants to sing it yourself. The piano player catches the look in your eye and understands. She plays your intro, and you begin to sing. Imagine that.
