Miley Cyrus Set to Headline iHeartRadio Australia Music Fest
According to Billboard.com, Miley Cyrus will headline the inaugural iHeartRadio Australia Music Festival this October. Cyrus will lead the line-up for the single-day show which debuts Oct. 18 at Sydney's 20,000-plus capacity Allphones Arena.
Bangerz, Miley's fourth studio album, bowed at No. 1 on the ARIA albums chart following its release last October, and the singles "Wrecking Ball" (certified quadruple platinum for 280,000-plus units) and "We Can't Stop" (triple platinum for 210,000-plus units) have also been big hits here. Her latest album was Miley's second career No. 1 Down Under, following the chart-topping Breakout from September 2008.
"This has been many months in the planning and we are incredibly grateful for the support of Miley Cyrus and the Australian Radio Network (ARN) to bring this to life in such a massive way," comments Dainty Group chairman Paul Dainty in a statement.
iHeartRadio launched Down Under in late 2013 in what was the Internet radio service's first expansion step outside the United States. The affiliate is run through the Australian Radio Network (ARN), a joint venture between Clear Channel and APN News & Media. By April of this year, its app had been downloaded 308,000 times (70% iOS, 30% Android) and the business boasted 207,000 registered users, up 11% from the prior month.
The brand has since hosted live concerts for Kylie Minogue and Ed Sheeran, though its launch MD Kate Beddoe played-down any talk of an Aussie version of the U.S. iHeartRadio Music Festival, telling Billboard last year, "We're a way away from being able to offer that caliber of events in Australia." With Thursday's announcement, that's no longer the case.
