Midlake to Embark on Special Acoustic Tour w/ Neil Finn, Album Out Now
Midlake will head out on the road March 29 for a North American tour with Neil Finn; please see complete dates below. For the upcoming shows the band's special acoustic lineup will feature Eric Pulido (acoustic guitar/vocal), Jesse Chandler (flute/keyboard/vocal) and Joey McClellan (guitar/vocal). Midlake's new album Antiphon is out now and is garnering critical acclaim: "Midlake is a potent musical force," Paste declares while Consequence of Sound hails the record as "...a strong statement" and American Songwriter praises it "...a true feat of musician ship." Antiphon was named one of the top 10 albums of 2013 by Filter and the New York Daily News.
Recorded at their studio in Denton, the self produced Antiphon came together in six months and was mixed by Tony Hoffer (Belle and Sebastian, M83, Beck). According to Eric Pulido, "Antiphon is the most honest representation of the band as a whole, as opposed to one person's vision that we were trying to facilitate."
The band was formed in 1999 by a group of jazz students at the University of North Texas College of Music who made their debut as Midlake with 2004's Bamnan and Silvercork. The 2006 album The Trials of Van Occupanther brought the band critical acclaim with Entertainment Weekly saying "Midlake excel at lush, harmony-laden ballads" and Mojo calling the album "an invigorating, many-faceted work of diverse instrumentation and durability." The band's 2010 The Courage of Others followed which The A.V. Club praised as "more personal...bracing-stunning, even."
