Mick Jagger to Adapt 20 FEET FROM STARDOM to TV & Broadway Musical
The one-hour scripted TV drama would be executive produced by Jagger, Victoria Pearman and the film's director Morgan Neville.
Both the television series and the Broadway musical adaptation would center on the lives of backup singers who spend their careers in the shadows of some of the biggest musical names in show business. While the original documentary focused on the history of backup singers, the TV series would shed light on contemporary performers.
In addition, it is reported that some of the singers highlighted in the documentary, including Darlene Love and Lisa Fischer would appear in the Broadway version. Love previously appeared on stage in Broadway's Hairspray. Others featured in the film, including Merry Clayton and Judith Hill have been in the spotlight lately, with HIll singing the national anthem at the recent Rose Bowl.
20 Feet From Stardom made its debut at the 2013 Sundance Filml Festival where it was acquired by Radius-TWC. The film became the highest-grossing documentary of the year and picked up an Academy Award nomination for best documentary. Jagger himself can be seen in extensive interviews and footage of the film.
