Michael Jackson's Personally Owned White Sequined Glove Sells for Over $60,000

An exceptionally rare white sequined glove owned by Michael Jackson sold for $64,850 at Nate D. Sanders Auctions. Globally recognized as the king of pop culture and music - he holds the record for the largest selling pop album - Jackson was also recognized for his iconic sense of fashion. The media called Jackson "The Gloved One," because he adopted the habit of wearing a white rhinestone glove on his right hand, creating an instant sensation. The glove being auctioned was given by Jackson in1984 to his personal artist, Paul Bedard. Jackson commissioned Bedard to create more than a dozen paintings for Jackson's home and for Neverland Ranch. Bedard's paintings featured historical figures -- Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Albert Einstein and E.T. - all of whom were depicted wearing a sequined white glove on their right hand.

Included in the lot are images of art Bedard created for Jackson,, a photo of Bedard wearing the glove and a 2005 typed declaration signed by Bedard attesting to his ownership of the glove and its authenticity. Bedard sold the glove to a private collector in 2005.

Also selling for $12,500 is the prototype jacket Jackson wore for the creation of the "Bad" video and album cover. "Bad" produced more Billboard Hot 100 #1 singles than any of Jackson's other albums. The prototype jacket varies only slightly from the final jacket, which includes more metal embellishments. The custom heavy black denim jacket has the highly recognizable asymmetrical design, with zippers set on the diagonal. The jacket comes with a letter of authenticity from Arthur Phoenix, a Jackson family spokesperson and biographer who also managed Tito Jackson's career.
