Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, now featuring second generation members of the legendary troupe founded by brothers Jose and Fernando Martinez, performs in concert at the Gallo Center for the Arts at 8 pm on Friday, September 27.

Tickets are $19 to $69 and may be purchased online at GalloArts.org, by calling (209) 338-2100, or at the Gallo Center ticket office at 1000 I Street in downtown Modesto.

Established in 1965, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan was one of the most prolific mariachis of all time, recording more than 500 original arrangements on more than 100 albums. When Maestro Jose (Pepe) Martinez left to join Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan in 1976, Fernando Martinez remained in charge of the group until his death in 1998.

Today the group is comprised of four second-generation Martinez family members, all sons of Fernando, along with some of the most virtuoso musicians on the mariachi circuit. Carlos Martinez, musical director, continues in the steps of his uncle and father, composing original scores and arrangements that demonstrate the diversity of Mexican culture while preserving its most treasured music traditions.

Most of the members of the Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan come from multi-generational mariachi family dynasties. This prodigious ensemble presents all levels of the live mariachi experience, from the most traditional and popular songs to complicated compositions and arrangements.

Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan's performance is sponsored by Don Francisco Cheese.
