Maria Mendes' unique vocal abilities have been praised internationally by jazz critics and jazz musicians. Her sold out performances in Switzerland, Brazil, Portugal and Holland have been drawing the attention of the jazz media worldwide and have gotten great reviews considering her to be one of the most promising singers in the European Jazz scene. Maria comes from a dynasty of Portuguese musicians and is educated as a Jazz vocalist in Porto, Brussels, and Rotterdam. Her culturally rich background has supplied her with the richness of the classical music, the Bossa Nova's gentle grooves and the American jazz classics of the early 50s.
Her debut album Along the Road was released worldwide in May 2012 by the New York based jazz label Dot Time Records. The international press has classified the sound of this album as "exotic jazz with a Portuguese nostalgia". The US tour is partly promoted and produced by Dot Time Records as well as the Portuguese Arte Institute of NYC and the Portuguese Consulates in the Unites States.
