Max Lifchitz -- the Mexican born composer/performer and long time New York City resident -- will appear as pianist in a concert devoted to his vocal and instrumental works on Thursday evening November 19.
The free admission event will start at 7 PM and will take place at theClemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center (107 Suffolk Street) on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
Performers for the event will include vocalists
Anna Tonna and
Celeste Mann, flutist Lisa Hansen and cellist Marisol Espada.
A retrospective concert, the program will include works straddling the fifty years Mr. Lifchitz has been active as a composer. Featured will be his ever-popular Mosaico Latinoamericano; Yellow
Ribbons Nos. 1 & 46; a recently completed vocal duo based on texts of the 17th century Mexican poet Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz; the Piano Preludes composed in 1964; and the recent Piano
Silhouettes inspired by Elisabeth Condon's paintings.
Co-sponsored by PAMAR, the event is part of the 10th Latin American Cultural Week.
The concert is made possible through grants from the New York State Council for the Arts, the New York City
Department of Cultural Affairs and the Music Performance Trust Fund.
