Come out and enjoy 2nd Saturday in Everybody's Hometown of Media, PA today, September 14th, 2013. Media Arts Council is hosting a free event from 4pm to 10pm. There will be arts & music activities all over town for everyone to enjoy.

2nd Saturday in Media's lineup of events:

The renowned blues singer, Lonnie Shields, known for his music that is deeply rooted in gospel, soul and R & B will be performing at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, State and Olive Streets starting at 7:00pm

Friends of Glen Providence Park will present a free Big Band Swing Concert in the park! Ken Delmar and the Cheers Big Band will take you on a musical journey spanning four decades from the 1940's through the 80's. Relax on the lawn by the stage and enjoy the sounds of Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Elton John and more! For a glorious experience in Glen Providence Park come and hear Ken Delmar and the Cheers Big Band from 4:30-6:00 pm.

Emily Geddes is the visual artist of the month. Many of her photographs were captured just along the trail of ordinary life, literally in the blink of an eye Her work may be seen at Picasso's Restaurant on State Street.

The Children's Activity will be led by Meg Barney, art teacher at Rose Tree Elementary. She will be doing Newspaper Crafts. Come make magic beanstalks, paper balls, and party hats from newspaper. Great wholesome fun in Media for everyone! Let's get creative.

This will be the Media Arts Council's 90th consecutive 2nd Saturday arts stroll on Media's State Street. In the evenings, participating merchants present local artists and musicians in their stores. For more information visit www.mediaartscouncil.org.

About the artists:

Lonnie Shields is truly the next generation of the blues. He cut his blues teeth performing with the Jelly Roll Kings. His recording career has led him through a number of studios from Memphis and Clarksdale to tours all over the world. His music is deeply rooted in gospel, soul and R & B while his sound, like his soul is never too far from the home of the blues. Over the years, Lonnie has played with many Blues greats including Sam Carr, Sonny Rhodes, Eddie Shaw and Big Jack Johnson to name just a few. Emily Geddes calls her work "Photographic art capturing The Miracles of ordinary life" always ready to laugh and smile. Her work strives to portray this positive attitude with vivid colors and bright composition. She is a self-taught photographer who grows with each photograph having a wonderful journey of study and experimentation. Emily Geddes's photographs may be seen at Picasso's Restaurant starting September 14 through October 10.
