KIM LENZ

August 10 at 7:30 PM

$12 Advance / $15 at Door

The titian-haired, vivacious Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter-guitarist established herself as the top modern rockabilly songstress with a pair of widely praised albums for Hightone Records and rapturously received performances across the States and in Europe; Rolling Stone raved, "If Elvis had been a woman, he probably would have sounded just like Kim Lenz." After a recording and performing hiatus that left fans panting for her return, Kim is back in the groove with her best recorded work yet, the album It's All True, which she produced herself and is releasing on her own Riley Records imprint. The new collection is a flaming slab of fuel-injected contemporary rockabilly that handsomely shows off Kim's sass, energy, and romp-stomping vocal chops. It secures her position in the small pantheon of great female rockabilly singers that includes Wanda Jackson and the late Janis Martin.

FREEDY JOHNSTON

August 14 at 7:30 PM

$15

Freedy Johnston has been making records for over twenty-five years. Johnston was named Best Songwriter of 1994 in "Rolling Stone" magazine's annual critics' poll, for his album This Perfect World, which included the hit, "Bad Reputation". He beat out Kurt Cobain and Sam Phillips, who placed 2nd and 3rd in the poll, respectively. In 2009, he released his first new album in eight years, Rain On The City. Pitchfork, the Los Angeles Times, and others praised the album, calling it one of the most assured efforts of Johnson's career. Johnston is getting ready to release his next album, Neon Repairman, later this year.

NICK GARRIE

August 17 at 9:30 PM

$15

Nick Garrie is renowned in psychedelic collectors' circles for his 1970 debut, The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas, a Baroque pop masterpiece effectively buried by nonexistent distribution and promotion. Born June 22, 1949, in Yorkshire, England, to a Russian father and Scottish mother, Garrie spent the majority of his adolescence at a French boarding school. He began writing songs while attending Warwick University, but his interests primarily lay in surrealist literature and poetry and he did mount a performing career until 1968, playing bars and restaurants while backpacking through the south of France. When the Stanislas track "Wheel of Fortune" appeared on Phil Smee's influential psychedelic pop obscurities compilation Circus Days, the legend of Nick Garrie grew, and with so little concrete information on his career the fanzine 117 published a fabricated biography as a prank. However, the gag was lost on many and the bio was accepted as fact in many quarters, further muddying the waters. While operating a ballooning company, he released a second Nick Hamilton LP, 1994′s The Playing Fields, and in 2002 - after returning to France to teach at a comprehensive school - released Twelve Old Songs. Finally, in late 2005 the British reissue label Rev-Ola released The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas to much critical acclaim.

SHRIVE ALIVE

August 29 at 9:30 PM

$12

Shrive Alive's first inspiration was guitar great Jimi Hendrix, but since then his playing has been influenced by many rock, blues and jazz musicians. Shrive has spent valuable time in Mississippi with Fat Possum Records, working with greats like R.L. Burnside and T-Model Ford. His talents span beyond the stage and into the studio where he has produced for Nas, and was featured on guitar in the Michael Mann movie "Ali" starring Will Smith. Shrive has also worked as an engineer with many Hip-Hop and R&B legends including Mary J. Blige, Notorious B.I.G., Jodeci, and Wu-Tang Clan. This show features Fred Cash on bass, Greg Gonzalez on drums, and Alex Nolan on guitar.

BILL KIRCHEN & TEXICALLI

Featuring Cindy Cashdollar and Johnny Nicholas

August 30 at 7:30 PM

$25 Advance / $30 at Door

Bill Kirchen's forthcoming album Seeds and Stems contains a truckload of songs that capture the singular sound and high-energy vibe of Kirchen's live shows, the songs he started out with that are still perpetual crowd-pleasers. As Bill describes it, "We went to London and cut it pretty fast with the band that I tour with. We did it all at once. Something happens when you do that. I don't understand the science behind it, but it's undeniable." Kirchen offers a rare combination of guitar virtuosity, a mastery of roots rock 'n' roll, and an almost magical connection with his audience. Finally with Seeds and Stems, due out on Proper Records on June 18, 2013, he has an album that captures all of this.

JOHNETTE NAPOLITANO

Older brother Niall, who founded the group Nomos and now tours with singer Karan Casey, is one of the most original and virtuosic concertina players in the history of Irish music" -Irish America Magazine

JOSH ROUSE

September 26 at 9:30 PM

$25

Josh Rouse has been lauded for his special talents - creating little slices of heaven with words and music that have captured the hearts and minds of both critics, and fans, the globe over, whether it is the New York Times talking about his "pop-folk introspection", Filter lauding the "wide-eyed 'thank you, ma'am' songs that could have grated in their earnest angle if they weren't so damn wonderfully executed" or Uncut raving about the music as "warm, molten gold, a long bath in the serenity of well-gauged bittersweet balladry" and proclaiming him "a talent to outrank Ryan Adams or Conor Oberst." Over a storied career, from the engaging debut Dressed Like Nebraska, through his 'golden era' with 1972 and Nashville, and right down to the 2011 latin-bossa nova-tinged release...and the Long Vacations, Rouse has created a series of unique, and distinctive records, filled with sparkling melodies and enchanting lyrics. And there is no disputing that The Happiness Waltz again proves that he stands apart from the crowd, producing yet another set of delicate, intelligent, nuanced pop songs, all destined to become fast favorites. An album of twelve radiant new tunes, from the upbeat "This Movie's Way Too Long" to the jangle-fest that is "Simple Pleasures", a cohesive whole that should please fans both old and new.

NORA JANE STRUTHERS & THE PARTY LINE

October 16 at 9:30 PM

$15

Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line are a traveling Carnival of acoustic Americana. The high energy, Nashville-based quintet perform Struthers' original story-songs with tight, three-part harmonies, fiddle, claw-hammer banjo, acoustic guitar, bass, and drums. Struthers was catapulted into the spotlight when she lead her band to a blue ribbon at the prestigious 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competition (previous winners include Nickel Creek and The Dixie Chicks) and now her group is touring heavily in support of their April 16 release, Carnival. "When you go to a carnival, you go into a sideshow tent, and on every stage you find a different person with a different story," says Nora Jane Struthers. "That's why I'm trying to do with this album - craft vignettes, and in some cases more developed narratives, about imaginary people's lives." Nora Jane Struthers steps forward with a distinctive sound and on-stage style - her personal collection of vintage dresses makes her one of the most visually striking of modern acoustic artists. But the moving, perceptive, and witty songs on Carnival represent a new quantum leap, born of hard work and deep creative reflection. The album marks the recording debut of Struthers' touring band, the Party Line.

CAROLINE ROSE

October 11 at 9:30 PM

$12

After setting out on a drive that turned into a near-endless journey crisscrossing the back roads of Middle America, Caroline Rose returned back east with books full of stories and poems that would become the songs of America Religious, a record that delves neck-deep in topics most people wouldn't dare to discuss at the dinner table. From politics to religion, heartbreaking sadness to seemingly endless joy, Caroline Rose traverses a path paved by the likes of Townes Van Zandt, John Lee Hooker, and Joni Mitchell, to name a few. "...Each track seems to tackle a new topic and make even the most familiar themes feel fresh." Paste Magazine

JEAN ROHE

October 22 at 9:30 PM

$12 Advance / 15 Door

Jean Rohe and her 8-piece band present their long-anticipated album, Jean Rohe & The End of the World Show, a collection of Jean's genre-defying narrative songs. Produced collaboratively with Jean's long-time artistic partner, Liam Robinson, the album is a multi-lingual travelogue, charting her lone journeys in New York, Latin America, and beyond. It bears her signature aesthetic mark--rhythmic playfulness and carefully crafted stories, delivered directly to the heart--and features creative orchestration by Jean and the band: Richie Barshay (drums), Rogério Boccato (percussion), Liam Robinson (accordion), James Shipp (vibraphone/percussion), Skye Steele (violin), Christopher Tordini (bass), and Ilusha Tsinadze (guitar). "A sure-footed young singer-songwriter" -The New York Times

GRIFFIN HOUSE

November 5 at 7:30 PM

$20

After graduating from school in Springfield Ohio, Griffin House joined some of his buddies who'd moved to Nashville and started doing solo gigs at the bottoms of bills in local clubs. Within months, he was headlining, surprising himself at his rapid development. "I was working in a gift shop downtown for $6.50 an hours," he remembers, "and four months later I was flying to L.A. and New York for meetings with record labels." House signed with Nettwerk and banged out his first CD with his band in five days, before moving from Nashville to Cincinnati. He spent most of the subsequent three years on the road. His intelligent and heart-felt lyrics and melodies in such songs as "The Guy Who Says Goodbye to You Is Out of His Mind" and "Better Than Love" have garnered commercial and critical acclaim alike. From being featured on the CBS Sunday Morning Show, to touring with the likes of John Mellencamp and the Cranberries, House continues to gain national recognition and is currently is headlining his own tour across the U.S.
