Broadway headliner and GLEE breakout star Lea Michele is circling a role in a brand new animated musical in the Bollywood style from ENCHANTED director Kevin Lima, featuring songs by BOMBAY DREAMS composer A.R. Rahman and WICKED composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz.

The new animated Bollywood musical is titled BOLLYWOOD SUPERSTAR MONKEY and is reportedly loosely based on the Hindu epic "Ramayana", following the adventures of two brothers who unwittingly unleash an evil spirit on earth that captures a top Bollywood star, with the brothers then teaming up with the star's prized pet monkey to save him - and save the earth in the process.

Of note, Michele is said to be eyeing the role of the musical pet monkey of the title, Pinki.

The script for the movie musical was penned by BEND IT BY BECKHAM scribes Gurinder Chadha and Paul Berges, with original songs by Rahman and Schwartz.

Of course, Michele has famously performed a handful of WICKED songs written by Schwartz on GLEE - including "For Good", which premiered on BroadwayWorld a few years ago, as well as "Defying Gravity", which we also world premiered last month (available here).

Michele has also been rumored to be a frontrunner in contention for the lead role of Elphaba in the oft-discussed in development film adaptation of WICKED, as well. Nonetheless, this would be the first pairing of Michele and Schwartz on a new film or stage project.
