JAZZ STARS / DATES

John Proulx TRIO / DECEMBER 17, 2012 - The jazz scene is abuzz about singer/pianist/composer John Proulx. His piano playing is hot and swinging, and his voice recalls the smooth, mellow sounds of a young Chet Baker. John’s latest CD on MAXJAZZ, "Baker’s Dozen-Remembering Chet Baker” is a tribute to the late trumpet player and vocalist. It features legendary musicians Chuck Berghofer, Joe LaBarbera, and special guest, Dominick Farinacci on trumpet. John is also a Grammy-winning composer. Jazz legend, Nancy Wilson, recorded "These Golden Years", a song that John co-wrote with lyricist D. Channsin Berry, for her 2006 Grammy-winning CD, Turned to Blue.

J ACKIE RYAN and her TRIO / JANUARY 14, 2013 - Jackie Ryan is "one of the outstanding jazz vocalists of her generation and, quite possibly, of all time. She is the thoroughbred vocal equivalent of the Triple Crown, rivaling the dexterous sass of Sarah Vaughan, the instinctive smarts of Carmen McRae and the scintillating verve of Diana Krall." Christopher Loudon, JAZZTIMES

GINA ECKSTINE and her Trio / FEBRUARY 4, 2013 - Gina Eckstine is a true artist. She performs all styles of music beautifully and her powerful presence and unique voice will captivate you. “Eckstine, whose father was Billy Eckstine, has the spunk, the spirit and the soul of her family’s patriarch. At her best, she delivers a song with the same intense ability to tell a musical story.” – Don Heckman, The International Review

GENE CIPRIANO & CAT CONNER TRIO / FEBRUARY 18, 2013 – American woodwind & horn player Gene Cipriano & vocalist Cat Conner. Gene “Cip” Cipriano is one of Hollywood’s most recorded musicians. Working with many of the greatest musicians and recording artists over the past 50 years, Cip’s impressive career embodies recordings with Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, Elvis Presley, Judy Garland, Rosemary Clooney and MiLes Davis. Cat Conner has long been a happy presence in the Los Angeles jazz scene. Cat has a voice that is rich and sultry and an infectious smile, Cat is known for her ability to swing and her amazing choice of tunes. Her voice is strong and very attractive, her long tones are appealing, and she knows how to make each note and sound count.

ANNA MJOLL and her TRIO / MARCH 11, 2013 - Iceland's Anna Mjöll grew up in one of her country's leading musical families, eventually representing Iceland in the famed Eurovision Song Contest. She then joined the band of Julio Iglesias, touring worldwide before setting out on her own career as a jazz singer and songwriter. "Icelandic jazz diva Anna Mjöll evokes Peggy Lee, Astrud Gilberto and especially Blossom Dearie, but fascinates with her highly personal interpretations. She knows how to caress a melody and seduce the listener." - Arnaldo DeSouteiro

JANIS MANN and her TRIO / APRIL 8, 2013 - "A first class jazz singer!" Scott Yanow, jazz critic and author, proclaims. At once both a striking song stylist and a fearless improviser, Janis Mann is that rare artist who can sweep you away with her captivating sound. She is a true jazz singer in the manner of Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, and Shirley Horn, yet with a sound all her own. An exciting and engaging performer, Janis' rich timbre, flexibility, and range often invite comparisons to Sarah Vaughan. "Janis Mann continues to generate some of the best vocal music anywhere." These words from Cadence Magazine reviewer Alan Bargebuhr confirm what fans of this award-winning singer have known for years.
