Keke Palmer on Becoming Broadway's CINDERELLA: 'I Can't Believe It's Really Happening'

As BWW reported yesterday, producers of the Tony Award winning musical Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA,Robyn Goodman, Jill Furman and Stephen Kocis, announced that actress, talk show host and recording artist Keke Palmer will make her Broadway debut by stepping into the title role on September 9, 2014, thus making history as the first African-American Cinderella on Broadway. Actors Equity honored CINDERELLA with their award "Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway" in 2013.

Palmer spoke to ET by phone from her home in LA about her upcoming role. "It's honestly one of those things that I can't believe is really happening," said the performer. "I'm very excited. Very excited and nervous as well -- a bunch of feelings all at once."

She continued, "Theater offers so much more than I haven't been able to access doing film and TV and everything like that. I'm very excited to learn all that it has to offer -- that focus and that dedication to perform at a certain level every night."

Palmer shared that one of her greatest inspirations is singer Brandy Norwood, who actually took on the fairy tale role in a 1997 TV adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. "I feel like the reason I'm able to do this is definitely because Brandy did it on TV," she eplained. "In me doing this, it shows everybody that everything is possible."

She went on to joke, "Every girl's dream is that story so to be able to play is going to be a dream come true for me. Not to mention that Stuart Weitzman made the glass slippers I'll be wearing."
