Kaitlyn Baker Signs Recording Contract with Silvercreek Records
Country music singer/songwriter Kaitlyn Baker, whose popularity has been steadily climbing throughout Appalachia since she began performing as a girl, has signed a recording contract with Silvercreek Records in Nashville, Tennessee. The 19-year-old artist's first album under the Silvercreek banner is planned for release, later this year.
"I've been singing for such a long time, it's hard to believe I have signed my first record deal," Baker said. "My family and I are extremely excited to be working with Silvercreek Records. We are looking forward to seeing what's in the future."
Growing up in the small town of Pound, Virginia, Baker began singing in church at the age of 7, and had completed three independent albums by the time she was 14. Her music is influenced by the rugged beauty of the Appalachian Mountains and the coal mining culture of the region.
"My father and grandfather used to work in the coal mines," she said. "A lot of the inspiration for my songs comes from the way I was raised. People would gather around the town hall and play bluegrass music. I grew up listening to old rock and gospel. I feel as if all those things combined to give me a bluesy, country-rock style that's a little sassy."
Baker was discovered and is managed and co-produced by Scott Arnold in Knoxville, Tennessee. She has performed at venues throughout Virginia and Kentucky, and has co-written songs with several established Nashville songwriters, including Silvercreek Records' resident songwriter, Janet Miller. She has opened for artists including Billy Currington, Doug Stone, Sawyer Brown, Rhonda Vincent, Sammy Kershaw, Brett Eldredge and Josh Gracin.
"Anyone who hears Kaitlyn is blown away," said Stafond Seago, CEO of Silvercreek Records. "She has an amazing voice and songwriting talent, and her stage presence is phenomenal. She's reminiscent of Carrie Underwood, but has her own style. We think she's a great artist."
Seago founded Silvercreek Records last summer, with partner Steve Pope, a veteran Nashville song plugger, songwriter and producer. Baker is the second artist to sign with the label, following in the footsteps of Eric Durrance & the Tobacco Rd Band.
Kaitlyn Baker will perform an industry showcase at Studio Instrument Rentals (S.I.R) Nashville on January 16, by invitation only. Her next public concert will take place at the Goodloe Center-Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, on February 14. More information is available at www.KaitlynBaker.com.
