A new acoustic video for Jonny P's song, "Stand By," recently premiered at Atwood Magazine and can be viewed/shared HERE. Of the songs and video, the site praises, "...a pulsating bassline, southern styled guitar riffs and subtle background horns serve as fluid waves for P's smooth sailing vocals and storytelling...the acoustic take, definitely an ode to the minimalism of the song, captures an insanely stylish and crooning Jonny P..."

The song is from Jonny P's forthcoming EP, Good To You, which will be released April 21 on Big Picnic Records. The EP was produced by guitarist Goffrey Moore, working in tandem with Jonny P, and was mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Frank Ocean, Jamie XX, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson) and features James Gadson (Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney, Herbie Hancock, Beck, BB King, Jamie Lidell) on drums.
Already receiving acclaim, Billboard asserts, "...it shows the Bronx-born, Nashville-based singer to be a soul stylist straddling the line between classic and contemporary," while Pigeons and Planes praises, "While his outward appearance may spark intrigue, Jonny P's velvety vocals over rhythms and melodies that fuse Motown influences with modern soul is what will keep new listeners hooked."
In celebration of the release, Jonny P will join the Nashville Ballet for their "Emergence" series June 1-3. More info and tickets can be found here. Additionally, the following month, he'll perform at the Nashville's "Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th" celebration alongside Chris Young, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Sisterhood, and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. More information can be found here.
"Suppose all music is apple pie," says Jonny P. "Every genre is apple pie, but soul music is the only one that's served hot with ice cream on the side." He continues, "It's so important to me to add to the story of soul music. I don't want to create a record that has to go up against Sam Cooke or Otis Redding or anybody like that. If I tried to create some thing that sounds identical to them, I personally would never spin that record. It's just a moment in time that can't be re-created. Hopefully I can help carry it forward because more than anything else, soul music is about right now."
Jonny P was born and raised in the Bronx and now calls Nashville home. In addition to music, he recently wrapped his first acting role in the upcoming film by director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal (who won Oscars for The Hurt Locker), a fictionalized chronicle of the Detroit riots of 1967.
