John Legend to Play Van Wezel, 4/27
Nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist, John Legend comes to the Van Wezel with The All of Me Tour, on April 27, 2014. The performance will feature Legend in an intimate and acoustic setting, highlighted by guitar/vocal accompaniment and a string quartet. The tour comes in support of Legend's highly acclaimed fourth studio album, Love In the Future, produced by Legend and longtime collaborators Kanye West and Dave Tozer. The album's smash single "All of Me," peaked at number two on the Billboard Chart and went Platinum.
Legend graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied English and African-American literature. He participated in a wide range of musical activities while at college, and during this time was introduced to Lauryn Hill, who hired him to play piano on her track "Everything is Everything." After playing with Lauryn Hill, Legend began playing shows and expanding his audience base. After college he was signed to Kayne West's G.O.O.D Music imprint and West hired him to sing vocal hooks on some of his music. As Legend gained momentum, his collaborations with established artists continued, and included Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. Legend released his debut album "Get Lifted" in December of 2004. The critically acclaimed album included his first hit single, "Ordinary People," which snagged him multiple Grammy Awards -- from then on it has only been onwards and upwards!
Throughout his career Legend has strived to make a difference in the lives of others. In 2007, he launched the Show Me Campaign: an initiative that focuses on education as a key to break the cycle of poverty. Legend has been honored with many awards noting his philanthropic efforts, and currently sits on the boards of The Education Equality Project, Teach For America, Stand for Children, and the Harlem Village Academies, and co-chairs the Harlem Village Academies' National Leadership Board.
Clearly a legend on and off the stage, The All of Me Tour, with the man himself John Legend, will make for a spectacular evening at the Van Wezel.
