Jennie Litt and David Alpher to Celebrate Release of TWO APPLES at Metropolitan Room, 6/5

Jennie Litt and David Alpher, Brooklyn's own married songwriting duo, celebrate the May release of their debut recording, TWO APPLES, with an appearance at New York's Metropolitan Room on Thursday, June 5 at 7pm. TWO APPLES is a collection of eleven original songs covering topics ranging from lingerie to gym addiction to the random miracle of existence. Ms. Litt describes Alpher&Litt as "eclectic writers inspired by American popular song and most comfortable in an idiom that's equal parts musical theatre, Tin Pan Alley, and Tom Lehrer." Additionally, Litt is an award-winning fiction writer and Alpher a world-renowned composer.

The performance will feature Ms. Litt's vocals with Mr. Alpher on piano, and a group of colleagues and friends including powerhouse vocalist and director Lina Koutrakos, counter-tenor Drew Minter, Rosemary Loar, Adam Shapiro and Uraina Collazo. The band includes jazz stalwarts Boots Maleson on bass, Scott Neumann on drums, Marcia Young on Renaissance harp, Ms. Litt on Brazilian nose flute, and Tom Glusac on saxophone and clarinet. Relatively rare in NYC cabarets, Alpher&Litt have appeared in numerous venues in the northeast and beyond, including The Chamber Arts Festival of Marbletown (with Jay Ungar & Molly Mason), the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, Bard College, Harvard University, Vassar College, and The MacDowell Colony. They have been featured on WAMC/Northeast Public Radio's popular "Performance Place" and "Dancing on the Air." Alpher&Litt made their NYC club debut in 2010 at Don't Tell Mama with the show Composing Ourselves.

Composer David Alpher's celebrated career includes the extended collaboration with Thomas Hampson, Jay Ungar, and Molly Mason which produce the perennial 1992 CD, American Dreamer: Songs of Stephen Foster (Angel), as well as a series of concerts and broadcasts at venues such as Lincoln Center, Tanglewood, and Town Hall. He has worked with Dawn Upshaw, Marilyn Horne, Christopheren Nomura, Judy Collins and Garrison Keillor, who recorded the narration of his composition Land of the Farther Suns, a spoken word cycle for narrator, four flutes and piano. His composition, Las Meninas: Variations, has had thirty-three performances worldwide. He is the founder of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, and served as Artistic Director for ten years.

Vocalist, lyricist, recording artist, teacher, and director Jennie Litt is a two-time ASCAPlus Award. Litt has performed at NYC's most popular clubs including 54 Below, The Metropolitan Room and Stage 72 and has coached cabaret at Vassar College and has presented master classes for the New York Singing Teachers Association among others. Litt and Alpher will team-teach a cabaret residency at Maine's Summerkeys in 2015.
