Jefferson Starship, created by Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Jefferson Airplane founder Paul Kantner, and by David Freiberg, also a former Jefferson Airplane member and co-founder of Quicksilver Messenger Service, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original band's creation with a tour that will come to the Gallo Center of the Arts on Saturday, February 28, at 8 pm.

Tickets for the event are $29 to $69, and may be purchased online at www.galloarts.org, by calling (209) 338-2100, or from the Gallo Center ticket office at 1000 I Street in downtown Modesto.

Jefferson Airplane's iconic music helped define a generation that focused on civil rights, environmental awareness and anti-war activism, and they appeared at the seminal Monterey Pop, Altamont and Woodstock music festivals. This concert will pay homage to the landmark recordings "Dragon Fly" and "Red Octopus," the latter of which propelled Jefferson Airplane to the top of the charts in 1975. Fronted now by singer Cathy Richrardson, star of "Love, Janis," the band also continues to perform a repertoire of hits spanning all eras of their existence, including "Somebody to Love," "White Rabbit" and many others.
