With a career that spans five decades, the innovative musician's indisputable influence in the music industry remains as lustrous as it did in 1961 when the remarkable artist began his career with the groups Bossa Rio and the Sergio Mendes Trio. Within five years he achieved universal stardom with his rendering of "The Look of Love," introducing the definitive sophistication and touch of sexiness that has come to define Brazilian music - Mendez style. He followed that success with the hits "The Fool on the Hill" and "Scarborough Fair."

Firmly entrenched in the music world, Mendes re-introduced an earlier single, "Mas Que Nada," sung entirely in Portuguese, and it hit Billboard's U.S. pop chart. It represents the Mendes signature mixture of bossa nova and samba combined with pop instrumentation. He received another number one hit on the adult contemporary and pop top ten charts in the 1980s with his "Never Gonna Let Your Go" and earned his first Grammy in 1992 in the Best World Music category for the album Brasileiro. Two Latin Grammy awards followed in 2006 and 2010, and he earned another Grammy nomination in 2010.

His artistic versatility has made the producer, composer, keyboardist and vocalist a welcome collaborator with other artists from a wide range of musical styles including pop, rock, urban and hip. In addition to many of Brazil's finest musicians, Mendes has worked with accomplished American artists, including Justin Timberlake, John Legend and Black Eyed Peas.

Mendes has recorded nearly 40 albums, and a new audience heard his music when he served as executive music producer for the animated feature film, "Rio 2," which grossed nearly half a billion dollars.

He continues to tour extensively, and surrounded by a bevy of thrilling instrumentalists and vocalists, his shows spins infectious Brazilian dance rhythms ranging from samba-based bossa nova and sophisticated jazz, soul and funk to sensuous harmonies and contemporary Latin pop.

Mendes' iconic album Herb Alpert presents Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, joining Bruce Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A., Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have A Dream speech, the Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street, and others in the 2012 class of historically significant recordings.

"Sergio Mendes is such a maestro, and he really has a 'cool' factor," says Adam J. Robertson, SCERA President & CEO. "He remains so innovative, and it quite an honor to have such a musical genius on our stage. His live concerts are huge productions."
