“Amen,” produced by fellow Londoner Burns, provides the perfect opener for the album, riding in on its infectious hip-hop bump with an electronic twist, setting the tone for THE UPRISING. Leading straight into the Knife Party-produced “Apex,” the BEGGARS make it clear they mean business, dropping razor-sharp lyrics and high energy over neck-snapping snares, grinding bass and lightning bolt synths. “Apex” is also accompanied by the Ben Soper-produced video, starring longtime FOREIGN BEGGARS affiliate Ed Skrein. Up next, “Crep Hype” makes sure not to relieve the pressure, teaming up with Salva for a celebration of their love of sneakers, telling the story in inimitable style. They up the tempo with “We Does This” and move in to drum 'n' bass with “Minds Eye,” with previous collaborators Millions Like Us and featuring the legendary Tommy Lee on the drums. Of the Tommy Lee collaboration, MC Orifice told Red Bull, "When I was a kid in boarding school, when the lights would go out, I'd listen to Mötley Crüe tapes back-to-back...It was a real trip to find out Tommy (Lee) was a fan."
Singles “Flying To Mars” have the group teaming with Alix Perez for a slippery beat that complements their dexterous flows as they enter into straight up hustle mode, while “Anywhere,” featuring London-based vocalist D.Ablo and Eddie Jeffry taking the production reigns with a rowdy instrumental, allows FOREIGN BEGGARS to take charge as they go full throttle. On “Goon Bags,” they join forces with experimental producer Blue Daisy for a cut of dark, warping hip-hop, while on “Working Angles” they join Kidkanevil for his more light-hearted, quirky slant. They straddle both sides of the Atlantic on “Never Stop,” a collaboration with Philadelphia-based producer Starkey which merges deep verses with an anthemic hook and brilliantly shows the breadth of FOREIGN BEGGARS’ talents. “See The Light” closes out the album on an epic wave of optimism with Bare Noize on production duties.
THE UPRISING take listeners on a winding sonic journey encompassing a unique blend of U.K.-flavored hip-hop grime, bass-drenched dubstep and grandiose electronic arrangements, featuring a broad lineup of electronic producers and surging forward with their genre-defying blend of sounds. THE UPRISING resonates with worldwide musical influences—a reflection of the group’s diverse ethnic and geographical makeup—to create a boundary-pushing sound that illustrates an unprecedented marriage between primal hip-hop culture and bombastic bass to create an unparalleled opus with global mass appeal. THE UPRISING is now available on iTunes and Beatport.
In support of THE UPRISING, FOREIGN BEGGARS are prepping to launch a North American tour in late October that will take them across several premiere U.S. and Canadian venues, including Webster Hall in New York, 1015 Folsom in San Francisco, Bluebird in Denver and many more. The tour also includes a featured performance at Hard Events’ inaugural Hard Haunted Mansion Presents: Day of the Dead November 3 in Los Angeles.
