First Listen: Lady Gaga Gets Down & Dirty in ARTPOP Video Release
Never one to not shock or amaze, Lady Gaga released a video for her #1 debuting album ARTPOP where she dons everything from a gorgeous black dress, to see-through sheer undergarments, mud, and horrendous fake teeth. If anything, Lady Gaga is a master of the bizarre as shown by the end of the clip where Gaga's stares into the camera crying while cycling through multiple looks, including one where she has a blinking light bulb in her mouth.
"This album is a celebration, my pain exploding in electronic music," Gaga says in voice-over before the song comes in. "It's heavy but after I listen to it I feel happy again, I feel lighter."
Check out her video after the jump.
As for the album itself, Gaga described Artpop as "a celebration and a poetic musical journey" that displayed a "lack of maturity and responsibility", contrary to the dark, anthemic nature of Born This Way, and ultimately subscribing to what she called a "reverse Warholian" formula.
Artpop was tracking towards sales of 260,000 physical units in the United States as of November 17, 2013, about 75% less than its predecessor, 2011's Born This Way. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 258,000 copies sold in its first week, earning Gaga her second consecutive number-one album and becoming the third-largest sales week for a female artist in 2013, following Katy Perry's Prism and Miley Cyrus' Bangerz.
While her album did not generate as many sales as past outings, it's safe to say that Lady Gaga is back and here to stay.
