Errol Barnett Named CBS NEWS Correspondent

Errol Barnett is joining CBS News as a Correspondent based in Washington, D.C. He will report for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms starting in June. Barnett joins CBS News with extensive experience reporting from around the world, as well as in the United States. His recent work ranges from covering the terror attacks in Paris to protests in Ferguson, Missouri and the death of Nelson Mandela.

Before joining CBS News, Barnett was an anchor and reporter for CNN International, based in the network's Atlanta headquarters. Prior to anchoring from Atlanta, Barnett was a general assignment correspondent based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He also hosted CNN's weekly series "Inside Africa."

His reporting work alone for "Inside Africa" took him to 22 countries on the continent in 24 months.

Barnett joined CNN in 2008. Prior to that he worked briefly as a host-correspondent for ReelzChannel.

His career in journalism began in 2001 at Channel One News, where, at age 18, he was the network's youngest anchor/reporter. While at Channel One News, Barnett covered such major national stories as the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Hurricane Ivan and California wildfires.

Barnett earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political Science with a focus on international relations from the University of California, Los Angeles.
