David Ball & The Pioneer Playboys Come to Spencer Theater in Alto, NM, 10/11

David Ball and the Pioneer Playboys are coming to the Spencer Theater in Alto, N.M. on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m.

Country artist David Ball has a knack for writing tunes with strong melodies which he sings with contagious ease and affection. His sweet, warm tenor has been likened to that of George Straight’s, and at times sounds like Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, Jimmy Buffet and Willie Nelson. Writing his own music, Ball’s songs share stories with interesting use of imagery and flesh and blood characters. He’s likely best known for his tunes “Riding With Private Malone” (a touching tune song about a soldier's lost dream becoming another person's reality) and his mega-hit “Thinkin’ Problem,” but Ball has a rich repertoire of melodies that include “What I’ll Do If I Don’t Have You,” “Houston,” “Tulsa,” “Amigo,” “She Always Talked About Mexico,” “Missing Her Blues,” and “Country Boy Boogie” that draw from a variety of styles – swing, Tex Mex and progressive cowboy into a blended sound that is true blue country. His is the music that tastes of a cold beer and dip on the dance floor with cheatin’ hearts, lively heroes, confused love, restless spirits, sentimental souls. Simply said, his music is refreshingly traditional – the real western thing.

Performing with his band The Pioneer Playboys, (Scott Metko on percussion & washboard, Troy Cook Jr. on lead & rhythm guitar and Steven Edward Ledford Sr. on bass) Ball will perform all his Billboard hits and more at the Spencer Theater on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m. Of course Ball’s music gets folks dancing, so the theater’s orchestra pit at the front of the stage will be open for two-stepping all night long.

Spencer Theater is a world-class performance hall located in the Sacramento Mountain settlement of Alto, about 12 miles north of downtown Ruidoso. Unique architecture, outstanding acoustics, intimate seating, and excellent artistry are the Spencer’s celebrated features. The elegant, award-winning hall, which first raised its curtains in 1997, seats 514, with no seats farther than 67 feet from the 4,770 square-foot stage. The Spencer also has a 964 square-foot outdoor stage that can seat 1,500. From its Spanish mica-flecked limestone face to the crystal lobby, the building itself is a work of art.
