Sharp was born in California 1970. Early in his life, Sharp was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a form of blood cancer. Recovery didn't look plausible to his doctors at the time; and so, The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted him a wish: to meet music producer David Foster. It was through Foster that Sharp was able to get a deal with Asylum Records back in the '90s. In the end, he managed to beat his cancer and has since been a spokesperson for The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Some of his most recognizable songs are If You Love Somebody, She's Sure Taking it Well, and Nobody Knows. His last single was Let Me Rock You to Sleep, which he released in 2011.

His family asks that if anyone wants to make a donation in his memory the donation should be made to the nearest chapter of Make-A-Wish.
