Clark Terry Named First Inductee Into The Trumpet Players Hall of Fame
The Board of Directors of the Trumpet Players Hall of Fame announce today that they will bestow trumpeter Clark Terry with the very first Star Award and induct him into the Hall of Fame during the Prescott Jazz Summit festival, on August 22nd 2014.
In addition to the Hall of Fame enshrinement, the Hall of Fame will bestow a fund in his name, supporting musical efforts of upcoming trumpet performers and educators.
Mike Vax, Vice President of the Hall of Fame said, "He has been my mentor, big band leader, confidant, and friend for over 40 years. One of the joys of my life was touring with his big band in Europe back in 1978. He remains one of the main inspirations for my commitment to jazz education, and much of what I teach young people today comes from him."
Scott LaFata, President of the Hall of Fame announced "We are pleased to present this award to Clark, who has been a role model to many musicians worldwide, a great trumpeter and an ambassador of jazz music. As our first annual inductee, it carries a special honor from and by trumpet players, and fans, all over the world."
