Renowned Grammy winning sax player Branford Marsalis and his innovative, hard-working jazz ensemble will perform at The Palladium for one special night on Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m.

A virtuoso on soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, three-time Grammy winner and Tony nominee, Marsalis, like his father and brothers, is a 2011 NEA Jazz Master. He has set himself apart with his impeccable technique and interpretive insight. His varied career includes leading the band on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for three years, performing with symphony orchestras, collaborating with Sting and the Grateful Dead and leading his own hip-hop band, Buckshot LeFonque.

Currently, Marsalis is leader of his own group, the Branford Marsalis Quartet, with musicians Joey Calderazzo on piano, Eric Revis on bass and Justin Faulkner on drums. Their most recent album,Four MFs Playin' Tunes, was released in 2012 on his own label, Marsalis Music. The recording explored the limits of musical adventure and band cohesiveness and features ambitious original compositions, a Thelonius Monk classic and 1930s classic.

At the time of the album's release, Marsalis explained, "We need to quit thinking of songs as vehicles and think of them as songs... What are we trying to do is figure out the emotional purpose of each song...and then play according to that purpose."

Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 16 at noon.
