The singer, songwriter and guitarist Boz Scaggs will perform at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall tonight, April 9, 2015 at 8pm. His explorations in Blues and R&B, Rock and Jazz have produced lasting work and a career that has brought with it acclaim, a loyal following, and an enduring respect among musicians.

Raised in small towns in Oklahoman and Texas, Scaggs took up guitar at age thirteen. Scaggs recalls that "As a kid in the fifties I was swept away by music and radio. It seemed there weren't enough hours in the day to keep up with that first wave of Rock and Roll..."

Scaggs talents have taken him all over the world, and his influences, style and genre of music have evolved and merged over the years. One of his first big albums was Boz Scaggs produced by friend and Rolling Stone founder, Jann Wenner, one of the big tracks being "Loan Me a Dime."

Scaggs multi-platinum 1975 release Silk Degrees featured hits such as "Lowdown," (which won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song,) "Lido Shuffle," "What can I say," and the ballad "We're All Alone," (which became a worldwide hit for Rita Coolidge.) Following Silk Degrees was Down Two Then Left, Middle Man and Hits, including "Miss Sun," and "Look What You've Done To Me." Scaggs essentially sat out the eighties taking a break from the music business. He made his comeback in the nineties with what he calls, chapter two of his career. Scaggs signed with Virgin Records and released a string of successful records Some Change, the Grammy nominated Come On Home, Dig and Fade Into Light. Next came two albums of Jazz standards. The first, But Beautiful released on Gray Cat Records, featuring a traditional quartet and went to number one on the Billboard's Jazz Chart. The second album Speak Low, was arranged and produced by Gil Goldstein for Verve Records. Scaggs said that the jazz albums showed him a whole new world of vocal expression.

Tickets are $15.00-$72.00 and are available at VanWezel.org, the Box Office, or by calling 941-953-3368.
