According to the Associated Press, Conchita Wurst, a bearded drag queen from Austria, won the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Wurst made a James Bond inspired entrance and sang the power ballad Rise Like a Phoenix. Her performance caused protests because of the way she pushed the gender boundries; however, she still managed to win the competition with 290 points.

She stated, "This is dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom."

Wurst is the alter-ego of Thomas Neuwirth, a 25 year old. Wurst helped Austira secure their second victory in the Eurovision Song Contest. Austria's first win was back in 1966.

When asked how she thinks Putin, who just introduced a law prohibiting gay propaganda in Russia, would respond to her win, she declared, "I don't know if he is watching this now, but if so, I'll say it: 'We're unstoppable.'"
