Grammy-nominated jazz singer Barbara Morrison will perform Sunday (May 3) with accomplished musicians Llew Matthews, Luther Hughes and Peter Buck at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club. The show begins at 6 p.m.

The Los Angeles-based Morrison was nominated in 2015 for her vocals on "The L.A. Treasures Project" performed with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album category for the 57th Grammy Awards. It was her third Grammy nomination. Morrison's previous Grammy nominations were in 1982 for vocals on "You're Driving Me Crazy" with Johnny Otis' The Spirit of Black Territory Band and in 1999 for producing a jazz album for Al McKibbon.

Morrison's latest CD, released in June, 2014, "I Love You, Yes I Do," featuring saxophonist Houston Person reached No. 4 on the JazzWeek.com national chart in July. It spent three straight weeks in the top 10 and eight in the top 20 and includes "And I Love Him" written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, "For the Love of You" written by the Isley Brothers and Christopher Jasper and "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" written by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart. They are examples of her powerful and soulful ability to adapt to a wide range of songs.

Pianist Matthews, Hughes on bass and Buck on drums will accompany Morrison. Matthews has been the long-time musical director, pianist, conductor and arranger for singer Nancy Wilson and played a significant role in her winning two Grammys for Best Female Vocalist. Hughes has performed with an extended list of award-winning musicians that includes Lionel Hampton, Kenny Burrell and Carmen MacRae. He also teaches at Cal State Fullerton and Saddleback College. In addition to playing the drums, Buck also is a composer with CDs to his credit.

Morrison performs a wide-range of songs including those originally done by Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Al Green and Smokey Robinson. In 2014, Morrison performed before sell-out crowds at the Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Detroit Jazz Festival and the Sunset at Newport Series at the Newport Beach, Calif., Marriott. She has been featured in over 20 recordings and performed with a cavalcade of stars including Carlos Santana, Buddy Guy, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Etta James, Otis, Wilson, the Count Basie Orchestra and Tony Bennett. She has toured nationally and internationally.

Reserved tickets in the front two rows are $30 and general admission tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For further information, go to www.jazz4us.info.
