BWW Recaps: IDOL Sends One Finalist 'Home'
Continuing last night's theme, this week's AMERICAN IDOL elimination episode opened with the Top-12 singing "Home", the breakout hit from this week's IDOL alum guest performer, Phillip Phillips. Each member of the gang recorded their version of the song into a phone that looked conspicuously like the Samsung model that Ellen used in the rather conspicuous Oscar's product-placement selfie!
After Ryan welcomed everyone to the show, for some reason, Harry felt the need to justify his critiques and criticisms of the contestants. He reminded them that he is paid to judge, and each time they perform, he is going to do what he can to help them improve. It was a genuine moment of compassion, but then he followed it up with this season's most ludicrous statement. I mean, how can he say with a straight face that this is the most talented group since Season 1?
We were also treated to "Raging Fire" from Season 11 champion Philips. A catchy, folk-inspired rock anthem, not unlike every other Phillip Phillips song I've ever heard.
A week after Keith brought us British indie rocker Jake Bugg last, Randy brought us Irish band Kodaline this week. Their single "All I Want" was completely and totally ok, in fact, it didn't sound too different from the song Phillip sang 15 minutes earlier. That being said, if the IDOL "tastemakers" are going to introduce us to new average acts, would it be too much to ask for them to introduce us to average American acts on AMERICAN IDOL?
Enough of all that, now to the business at hand:
Bottom Three (in order of announcement)
Despite the fact that her "Sing for your life" song (Grace Potter's "Stars") was far better than what we've seen the last few weeks from her, the judges correctly decided not to exercise their save.
So, another week down. Let me know your thoughts on next week's theme "Songs from the Cinema" in the comments below, or on Twitter @BWWMatt. Check back next Wednesday for my recap of the Top-11 Performance show!
