Art, Music and Comedy Come to Arts @ MU's First Friday and Artwalk Weekend, 5/1-3

The Arts at Millersville University offers a full weekend of art, music, and comedy during Lancaster City's First Friday on May 1 from 6 - 8 pm and Artwalk Weekend, Saturday, May 2 from 10 am - 5 pm and Sunday, May 3 from 12 pm to 4 pm.

The Ware Center will feature 4 separate visual art exhibits, 3 concerts, and a comedy show. The Ware Center is located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster.

Additionally, the Winter Center will also host a concert presented by Millersville University's Department of Music. The Winter Center is located at 60 W. Cottage Avenue, Millersville.


The schedule includes:

VISUAL ART:

- Millersville University's Graphic & Interactive Design Student Exhibit (First Friday only)

- Millersville University's Art Department Exhibit, "Coterie", featuring the artwork of 4 MU students: Kaitlin Crouthamel, Emily Pellini, Alexandra Rodrigues, and Jenn Tarr (open First Friday & Artwalk Weekend)

- School District of Lancaster's Art Exhibit featuring artwork of students in K-12 representing all SDoL schools (open First Friday & Artwalk Weekend)

- Echo Valley Art Group's 70th Anniversary Exhibit titled "Reflections" (open First Friday & Artwalk Weekend)

- Art exhibits are open to the public, no admission charge.

CONCERTS:

- Friday, May 1 from 6 - 8 pm at the Ware Center: Music by Justin Angelo

A free concert during First Friday by Justin Angelo, a singer/songwriter from Marietta, PA. Justin's music is folk indie/blues and music influences are John Mayer, DMB, Jason Mraz, and the John Butler Trio. Admission is free and no tickets are required.

- Friday, May 1 at 7:30 pm at the Ware Center: "Orchestral Masterpieces"

Cellist Emilio Colon performs with the Millersville University Orchestra, led by conductor Vera Volchansky. The concert will include masterworks by Bruckner and Rachmaninov. Tickets for this concert are $18 for general admission and free to MU students with a valid ID.

- Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 pm at the Winter Center: "Mostly Mozart Choral Collage"

This performance features Millersville University Choral Ensembles performing compositions of Mozart's familiar motet, Ave verum corpus, and his grand masterwork, Requiem in D Minor. The concert will feature a choral union of 150 singers from the University Choir, University Chorale and Women's Chorus, with an appearance by the MU Glee Club. A full festival orchestra composed of faculty, students and area professionals will accompany this repertoire. Tickets are $10 each and are free to MU students with valid ID.

- Sunday, May 3 at 4 pm at the Ware Center: Allegretto's "The Scottish are Coming"

Allegretto Youth Chamber Orchestra is Lancaster's own place to hear the very best high school instrumentalists in the region! We are very proud to give these fine students an opportunity to play the repertoire for chamber orchestra, an opportunity that is very seldom available to students of this age group. Anticipated repertoire includes: Weill - Symphony No. 2 and Mendelssohn - Symphony No. 3 , The Scottish. Tickets are $10 each and $5 for students & seniors.

COMEDY:

- Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 pm at the Ware Center: "Sweet Six"

Six side-stitching female comedians from around the country, ranging in age from 22-72 will perform at the Ware Center on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. The all-female lineup includes Iris Benson, Carrie Gravenson, Molly Sanchez, Sandra Risser, Leah Mansfield and Central Pa.'s own Rubi Nicholas, who each have incredible individual shows and are now coming together to tour the country as the "Sweet Six".

Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Ticket Office located in the Student Memorial Center on Millersville's campus, or the Ware Center, located at 42 N. Prince Street, in Lancaster. Doors open one hour before the show for ticket sales, subject to availability.
